Talyllyn carriages #1 and #2 were built by Brown, Marshalls & Co of Birmingham, England, in 1866 and 1867. Both were constructed with an open interior and compartmentalized seating for each door. Carriage #4 was delivered in 1867 by the Lancaster Wagon Co. and featured a more cost-effective design than its predecessors. All three coaches remain in operation on the Talyllyn Railway today, and while none are officially named, Carriage #4 is known to railway staff as "Lulu."
