Faced with economic pressure to find alternatives to steam, mid-20th century locomotive manufacturers developed a variety of fuel and engine alternatives in search of a locomotive that could successfully operate in demanding industrial environments. The Davenport Gas Mechanical was an early non-steam alternative that quickly proved its worth in mining, industrial, and agricultural settings. Based on a 1940s stock model from the Davenport catalog, the Spectrum® 0-4-0 Gas Mechanical returns to the Bachmann range with new paint schemes and DCC Sound on Board®.
