The East Broad Top Railroad and Coal Company began operation in 1872 to mine and transport coal from the Broad Top Mountain in central Pennsylvania. When the mines closed in 1956, the railroad was purchased by a company which operated a small section of the line for tourist excursions. The EBT railroad held the distinction of the only original narrow-gauge railroad surviving east of the Rocky Mountains for much of its history until the railroad ceased operations in 2011. Steam locomotives will once again head down the tracks in 2021 as the railroad returns to service with passenger excursions. Bachmann is happy to celebrate the history and revival of the East Broad Top with this freight train set. The set arrives complete with a 2-6-0 locomotive with operating headlight and tender with coal load, tank car, two-bay steel hopper, and caboose. Also included is a 56” x 38” oval of snap-fit nickel silver E-Z Track®, magnetically operated E-Z Mate® couplers on all cars, power pack and speed controller, and illustrated instruction manual.
